Over the past few years, the aesthetic and wellness medicine industry has seen, and continues to see, a tremendous amount of growth. This exponential growth has resulted in a very high demand for Medical Aestheticians. Career opportunities are increasingly appearing for Medical Aestheticians to work at existing and new Medical Spas (a.k.a. MedSpas / MediSpas), Cosmetic Medicine Practices, as well as Physician supervised wellness centers.
Medical Aesthetician Job vs. Day Spa Aesthetician Job
While working as a Medical Aesthetician, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a Medical Director (usually a Board Certified Physician), as well as Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and or Physician Assistants. Your responsibilities will revolve around treating patients with both medical conditions as well as cosmetic needs. Under supervision, you will be able to utilize medical grade devices as well as products. These devices and products produce greater results than anything available at a Day Spa.
Your day-to-day tasks may include some of the following: skin consultations to recommend non-medical treatments, medical facials, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, medical peels, laser skin rejuvenation, cellulite treatments using a medical device, and more.
What is a Medical Aesthetician's Salary?
The compensation for a Medical Aesthetician varies from state to state, and whether you are a part-time or full-time employee. It is generally provided as a salary plus percent commission on services and product sales. If working with a large facility or franchise location, medical insurance and 401K benefits may also be included. (Aesthetic Jobs hopes to have a more detailed salary report after conducting a worldwide salary survey in 2007.)
Note: Commission percentages may be lower than at a Day Spa, but note that the price of Medical treatments and products is greater than that of day spas. Also, due to its medical nature, the chances of repeat customers is also greater. Therefore, in the end a career as a Medical Aesthetician may work out better financially.
Medical Aesthetician Training
Because this industry is currently growing, and the demand for Medical Aestheticians is high, it is not absolutely required that you obtain Medical training right away. Many facilities will have its Medical Director conduct one on one training, either on the job or prior to start, to get you up to speed on the medical procedures and terminology.
Medical Aesthetician Jobs and Training are generally available to individuals who have already obtained their Esthetician certification. If interested, please visit the Aesthetic Jobs.com Medical Aesthetics & Wellness Training Directory
